Ashley lives with her mother, and her 13 year-old brother. The three of them live in government housing and survive on just $150 per week—what Ashley’s mom can make taking care of a neighbor’s child 24 hours a day, five days a week. Childcare is the only income Graciela has been able to find since she lost her job two years ago.

World Vision's Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) provides young people with the tools and experiences that inspire and encourage civic participation and leadership. YEP takes the passion, pain and anger and redirects the energy into positive activities. Through this experience,youth growing up in distressed communities learn to identify, articulate, and advocate around local and national issues, and to serve as leaders of change in their communities.
